Topic tags/keywords: friendship

I was reading “Watch This Tropical Garden Grow” and came upon B’s latest comment about this site”
At the end of the day, this is not a telephone chat, it’s a forum where the visual of what is being talked about is key_”

And it got me thinking.
What is this site? What is it about? Why do people like it so much?

Yes, it is a gardening site, the best I have seen!:-)

But, I think, that it is about sharing knowledge, giving each other ideas, supporting each other in our projects no matter where we live! And respecting each other!

And then I realized that all of that does spell “friendship”!

It’s one of the most social sites I’ve seen. Rather amazing actually. That’s part of the draw for it. However it’s some times hard to get critical feedback. Y’all are too nice.. ;)

it’s a good comment/question.
Since my first days online “chatting” so long ago I realized that everyone comes online for different reasons:
  • some strictly for the knowledge about a topic they are interested in
  • some for getting others’ opinions
  • some for sharing their own opinions
  • some for a “get-away” from the daily life “stuff”
  • some to vent
  • some to explore a new persona or to let a trapped one out
  • some to find out who they are
  • some to socialize with people who share interests, inspire, challenge and so on
  • some to observe others and their social interactions
For me, what this site is about is:
  • sharing and learning about gardening topics
  • being inspired by others’ creations
  • learning about our planet by watching spring move north and learning about plants and animals/birds that are in various parts of the world
  • and building friendships with other people who enjoy the outdoors.

Bunting- :) is a smile and ;) is a wink :( is a frown.

This site for me is all about sharing and chatting with people who have similar gardening interests.Other topics pop up once in awhile but they are usually very interesting too. After awhile it’s almost like you actually know each other and care about how each others projects turn out.It has been a great learning experience for me .The seed exchange has me growing stuff I never would have tried but now I can hardly wait to see the plants in the garden. And so many beautiful flowers I have never grown.I could go on and on but I won’t.(lol)

This is the first forum I have ever belonged to, so was not sure what to expect. I knew going in that I loved to garden and assumed other folk who would be joining would love to garden as well.

I have been totally blown away with the wealth of knowledge here and the kindness in which this knowlege is shared. For the most part there are no egos here. No talking down because “you don’t know”. And I feel critical feedback is okay and healthy, when it doesn’t come in the form of a personal attack. There is a difference.

The one aspect of this site that has surprised and delighted me the most has been the all the friendly chatting back and forth … about gardening, family, life … I have developed a caring for people that I have never truly met (face to face). You wonder how their projects are going; revel in their excitement … worry when bad weather is hitting their area.

I believe it is the the last aspect that I mentioned that makes THIS site different. We have good people here, who are interested in one another … and I think because that is who we have here, this is the type of people we will attract. It is more than just a gardening site .. it is part social as well.

I remember when those things meant something…..nowadays you can do all kinds of things with pre-made graphics and dpics and such. We used to have to make things up with ASCII in the old days.

What makes this site different? Poop-bombs!!!

I participate on about six different forums, and this one is by far the friendliest. Even the occasional poop-bomb around here is nothing compared to the flame-wars I’ve seen.
